What is the difference between fire proof & fire retardant properties?

In case of Fire proof, the material has to withstand certain amount of fire (should not burn) for stipulated time as per standard. Whereas Fire retardant material resists spontaneous combustion but will catch fire sooner or later if it comes in contact with fire. Only thing is it will not help in propagation of fire as it has very slow rate of combustion.
